You know. For as much as I rant and rail about my childhood experience, I might do well to keep in mind that it could always have been worse. What if I'd been the child of Fred Phelps?

It bothers me that a person like Phelps senior can't be put away for child abuse. PTSD? You think? ... Though on that note, I'm suddenly reeling with the thought of just how many kids in the bible belt are suffering PTSD. I bet it's a lot. That's really depressing. I really wish there were some qualifications for parenting beyond "stick penis in vagina" *sigh*

Fred Phelps has done great work for GLBT causes, by showing the true nature of modern Christianity. He's the only honest one of the bunch, the rest say the same thing as he does with a coating of syrupy politeness.

be that as it may I wish he didn't rely on brainwashing his own offspring into supporting his insane crusades. The abuse and terror that he has inflicted upon his own children is astonishing. This man is lucky to have gotten out, but he might never truly escape.

Wow, I'm really glad the guy found what sounds like a pretty okay existence, despite all of that.
