This is a project I finished a couple of days ago, but due to the emotional turmoil this weekend, I hadn't really had the heart to photograph it and put it online.

Eventually, I'll get around to taking these things and hiding them in trees in the park. The idea of the project really was to create anonymous art that would make other people smile when they discovered it but right now, my heart just isn't in it. :/

It's funny. I know some of them are actually really great but I just can't find any joy in them right now. For all the stuff I make and do, I can't really change anything that matters.

Do you really think they don't matter? Why keep them around to eventually hide around the park? Why not throw them out, or burn them or smash them to pieces?

It'd be a cruel thing to do to the people you planned to amuse with them, but they'd never know they'd lost anything if you got rid of these things that just don't matter.

I'm not given to kicking over sandcastles even if they are made by fools.

In the Silmarillion, Ainur decreed that the dwarves should be destroyed but when the hammer was raised to smash them, they cowered and showed fear, proving they were capable of their own thought and not mindless slaves without purpose. It was decided they might yet have a part to play and they were spared. My lifeless golems would not run.

I know they mattered to me in some sense and that this world needs more magic and beauty, and I know the idea of making them to give them to others in this way was a good plan, but right now I just don't really feel it. It's hard to feel magical and beautiful when nothing I could do kept my little one from wasting away. :(

Oh I love it when you talk Tolkien to me. Tell me the difference between Sindarin elves and Quenya elves.

That's easy...
The Quenya elves have lions.
Only in Quenya.... (http://www.weebls-stuff.com/toons/kenya/)

my heart just isn't in it. :/

That's what sadness does.

Take the time you need to mourn. Remember all the joys and fears, and then give them rest.

You know how to reach us.

Oh holy shit. You remembering that detail of the Silmarillion makes me want to haul ass north just so I can give you a hug right now. I can't think of anyone else who'd have read that aside from maybe Julia.

Ha! In highschool, I could read Tolkien elvish. For the LARP I played with friends, I took lead (flattened bullets from the backdrop of the firing range), flattened it, stamped it with some leather-stamping tools, cut the rune for wealth into it and spray painted them gold. I was the biggest dork in the universe at one time.

... I'll take pride in that. I was. Flat out, the best LARP DM ever... If you didn't mind an occasional broken bone or singed eyebrow.
