The altered Archie Art Archive. http://www.twu.net/~squirrel/comic.cgi?LIB=archie&ACTION=bgn

... Wait WAIT!!! I can explain!!!

Before you shun me, shun [livejournal.com profile] paka and [livejournal.com profile] prickvixen

Okay... It might have been my idea... And I may have bought the comics, supplied the beer, and the studio space but... I had my hand bandaged up at the time. I didn't draw much of this...

Anyhow... The idea was to re-badge 'good wholesome' Archie comics into Tank-Girl like comics. In the end, this ended up really just amounting to a bunch of poop jokes. So... In retrospect, we hit the mark. Anyhow. This is what happens when you turn 3 bored artists loose on 3 dollars worth of bad Archie comics. Fuck the comics code. :)

Archie is the epitomy of conservative crap. It's filled with misogyny and gender stereotypes, weak writing, and bad art. In the 1950's, real comics were banned in the US thanks to McCarthy and his band of neo-nazi crap peddlers. Archie still proudly bears the "Approved by the comic books code" label on the front page, though luckily for us, the 60's and 70's brought a backlash of underground comics which were made for an adult audience. Defacing this stuff was puerile and childish. We had a blast. :)

There are a couple good ones, but I have to admit that my favourite is the last page. That's not just putting moustaches on everyone. That is careful consideration of what sort matches each facial structure. It's not defacement. It's art.

Oh, but the first mpreg joke in the set had me rolling.

Ugh. The mpreg ones just make me shudder. I think my favorite is still the 'KNOW YE THE WRATH OF POSEIDON!' one. Though I like most of the HellRaiser/Rubix Cube sequence a lot too, and Weapon Archie.

Of the ones I did, I think this one (http://www.twu.net/~squirrel/archie/justhim.jpg) is my favorite. The alterations are subtle. At first glance you wouldn't know it'd been altered at all. I did a couple others that were okay too but on the whole, I think Paka and Prickvixen did the best ones.

I must also admit I did the two badly misspelled ones. The first one I thought would be amusing in it's complete highschoolness of being unimaginative and misspelled. The second one was because it exemplified Bush's command of the Engrish language.

I still want to sneak into your house with a ballpoint and add a Katamari Damacy rolly ball to the 4th panel in that one.

You left out that Archie Comics is guilty of business practices that make Marvel and DC look like Fantagraphics when it comes to creator rights and treatment.

Great fun. Thanks for sharing this.

Ya. You'll notice no pussycats were harmed in the making of this atrocity.

It's interesting. Wikipedia's article on Josie and the Pussycats doesn't mention all the stuff that came out about Archie comics when the movie of JatP was made. That seems atypical for wikipedia. I wonder if there are like Archie thought police removing any mention of it as frequently as they can.

Also, please note that using markers and white-out in an enclosed space shared by two other people makes ordinarily sorta-funny material into pure comedic gold. Really.

Heh. Ya. You did good, Booga. I think Jughead was what first inspired us on the Tank Girl thread. He's got that hat and stuff. He wants to be in a cool comic but is instead trapped in Archies. (Hmm. that might be a fun archie mutilation theme actually. Rework the comics so Jughead is some cool punk guy trapped in a world filled with white-bread)

And okay, ya. I like the Ninja one too. Niiinnnjaaa!
