Most of the convention was pretty good for me but there were some down parts too.

As a for-instance, I think I might have semi-retired my goggles. I wore them the first day with a sort of post-apocalyptic mad-max sort of look but the con was full of people who were just wearing goggles as though they were a costume of some kind. Some goggles similar to mine, some Willy Wonka goggles and several that were just big chunky ski goggles. But whatever. It's dead. I like mad science and I feel like I deserve the mad science look but who wants to be mundane?

On a related note, I saw several angsty boys in gas masks. Well... Painting masks that you can get from the hardware store but they clearly wanted you to believe they were gas masks and they were all full of angst and arrogance, as if they were better than everyone else there. Feh. No style at all. Come on assholes. Gas mask, baggy shorts and sandals? Nothing says protection like exposed flesh. :/

Anyhow, it did at least remind me of that cool costume last year. Peggy knows who I'm talking about, I think it's some friend of hers. Anyhow, that got me into doing some artwork Image on Velar Not Safe for Work So.. Um.. Yay!

Or at least I like it and I find that kinda hot. If it weren't someone else's look, I think I might swipe it and make it into a character for myself on SecondLife. But then I'd just be one of the posers, wouldn't I?

Anyhow. Character is coloured in marker but I didn't feel like wasting marker on such and uninspired background so I did it in photoshop.

Voivod was doing gas masks at their concerts in 1984. :D Having said that, I don't approve of letting some other dorks dictate your style, because the goggles are one part of you, don't worry about other people wearing them. You have a bazillion other things that make up you (like the fact that you're an unbelievably resourceful costume designer) so don't worry so much. Goggles look good on you. ^^

I agree with Matt: don't ditch the goggles as part of a larger look just because people are using just goggles. It'd be like me never doing another bug-girl look because some people were doing bug-eyes at the next con.

And they're hot on you.

Mm, I'll have to make sure [livejournal.com profile] dark_aldebaran sees that drawing... *grin*

I think Ashy's Doc-Ock-clip-on-shades were far more mad science than any of the goggles.

I liked when you combined the goggles with the heavy coat - it looked very reminiscent of England (or New England) in the '20s. Not mad science per se, but you never know when Miskatonic U might be planning their next expedition to Antarctica.

As for painting masks - in Ann Arbor, you used to be able to get Israeli gas masks cheap, the stuff they handed out to civilians en masse. I don't know if it's still possible to get those but for some reason, gas mask, baggy shorts and sandals sounds exactly like the sort of thing an Israeli might wear.
