They're trying to be trendy and "extreme" with these drawings. I liked the style of Batman: TAS when it aired on WB networks, and I like the style of Justice League and Teen Titans now, but I really don't think it fits for humorous characters whose slapstick was straight out of vaudeville.
This re-invention of them probably isn't going to work well. I think it's taking the wrong tack.
Still.. it's certainly better than what they've been doing lately with the WB characters -- tired revisions of 'muppet babies' and 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit".
"Hoping to breathe new life into its animated Looney Tunes franchise and prop up the WB television network's slumping Kids' WB line-up, Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. is planning to launch a new cartoon series this fall based on 're-imagined' versions of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tasmanian Devil, Lola Bunny, Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote.
Oh, lovely, we really do need another version of Lola to pornatize.
I think the design is cool. The problem is, you have classic Warner characters who now look like anything else out there. Quite frankly, nostalgia is the only thing keeping a lot of these properties going. Redesigning them this radically is like starting fresh... are Looney Tunes characters really compelling enough without their decades-thick layer of nostalgic veneer to grab anybody's attention?
