Forgetting to remember

I think I discovered an important weird little secret to doing artstuff. Being in a hurry or forgetting to remember what I can't do. When I was animating the cat I was so bent on making things look decent from shot to shot that I forgot I couldn't draw a character in the various poses needed to get from shot A to shot B because I was so focused on the process of making the shots work. That's been happening more the last couple of days as I fiddle around in Illustrator. I get an idea and I draw it, then I look at it five minutes later and go 'Wait a sec! I can't draw chicken feet! How did I draw chicken feet?' I finally realized the answer is this. I forgot I couldn't draw chicken feet so as long as I didn't remember that I was able to draw them.

I guess this is sort of what all the years of struggle were for but this is a little different from the technique and repetition I've studied with. I a tel it is different because of the fluidity in the artwork. It is quick and some things aren't right but it has enough rhythm to carry it through moe successfully than things I've over-rendered. I guess all that aimation and thousands upon thousands of almost the same picture has done something good for me. (Funny, I was angsting about this last week)

So, its like the lesson I was supposed to learn with the mirror (the one where the person reflected there may not have met my every desire but wasn't really bad looking if I realized she was someone different than I had been expecting) all over again. I'm still by no means a 'good' artist and I have a long ways to go, but as long as I can keep myself distracted and forget to remember what a hack I am, I can be less of a hack than I would be if I remembered that.

(My reasoning at 3AM is truly dizzying...)

One last note then off to bed: Charcoal colored the first 30 frames of 'Free as a Bird'... Only about 800 more and I'll have it done! ... urg.
