Recycling

Hmm. Ever since reading about PuzzleBox on [livejournal.com profile] postvixen 's LJ, I've been really obsessed with it. I can safely say it is the first MU* I've actually been excited about in ages, at least as a concept. parts of the description remind me nostalgically of the Rec Room on the original TinyMUD (Known as TinyMUD Classic by most) others excite me with possibilities. I've always been a fan and active participant in artcrimes so a MU* where this is, if not the norm, at least occassionally understood really gets my motor revving!

So... Why then can't I think of a good character concept? I have lots of ideas but most seem to not be dynamic enough to fill all the aspects I chose to show without revealing too much.

My best idea so far has been to make WireHead into a MU character. She evolved from a self-caricature type of drawing, but even that has some stumbling blocks. There are several different ways I could be WireHead as a character. Each has its own level of interest but I'm not sure any really work out.

Concept 1) WireHead the Woman My original concept of WH was sort of a technophile cybermedusa, butch, ballsy, somewhere between Tank Girl and Hothead Piasan. thick umbellical cables snake from her head, keeping her constantly connected. Always searching, looking, prying into every TV channel, every webpage. Simultaneously giving her more freedom than most people could dream of and making her their slave, forcing her to see every ignorant thought, every piece of propaganda, etc. While this concept does give me some truly fantastic ideas for sci-fi paintings, it reveals more than a bit of a god complex and its somewhat fatalistic.

Concept 2) WireHead the Doll In WireHead's animated incarnation, she was a discarded Barbie doll on a heap of old computer parts when what else happens, but a BOLT OF LIGHTNING brings her to life! (that's original) she fuses with the parts and becomes self-aware in a sense. Same personality concept and snakelike hair but this form is controlled, they plug in to what she wants and act as extra limbs. Her first moments as a living doll are spent stumbling down the refuse pile on scrawny Barbie feet. Upon hearing cries for help, she makes her way to a GI-Joe doll who's torso is separated from his hips/legs, the legs flailing in the air and he cries, "My legs! My god! I can't feel my legs!" to wit, she comforts him, then smiles wickedly (to the audience) and proceeds to pull out a PAIR OF GARDEN SHEARS, chop off his legs, then cut off her own legs and hot-glue his legs onto her. In the last scene she admires her new boots (a Barbie leg slung over one shoulder) and then starts to walk off. Cut to Joe admiring the Barbie leg and making some comments about what a great nurse she is and how he could fall for her, then she drops the leg in front of him and walks into the background with his legs (Joe in the foreground, screaming at her)

Concept 3) WireHead the Puppet Twice abstrated and back to that god complex again, this version of WireHead would be her as the actual animation puppet. Much of the personality is the same except there's this great excuse for talking OOC and for long idle times. Her actions are constantly being reposed by what you might call 'Los Manos de la Diosa' (if you're a dork like me) While this could be interesting for about 10 minutes I think it would rapidly lose its appeal and become cumbersome and dull in a very short timeframe.

Of course, option 4 is to come up with some new and original concept that has nothing to do with recycling old ideas. I could name myself 'Block' and set my descrption to 'Stuck for a concept.' and be sort of a concept art piece representing the difficulty in coming up with a good character. Hmm. Probably falls into the 'funny for ten minutes' category. It would also probably entice a lot of abuse from other players. Hmm. Back to the drawing board.

We now interrupt my usual self-obsessive posting for this important political announcement.

I've commented on pieces of this in the past but I'm happy that someone took the time to look up all the crap and assemble it into a solid weapon which might be capable of some real blunt-force trauma.
