I was going to post simply that the movie seems to be a mistake, like someone made a proposal for a video game and somehow it accidentally ended up being made into a movie because the cut scenes were okay but the gameplay sucked. But I decided to go a little more in depth.
Imagine that you're a trust fund baby who really really likes video games and you and your buddies decide you want to make a film portraying yourself as badass, so you say you're Hip Hop stars (even though you can't stand hip-hop, it sounds pretty street, so you do it but casually don't put ANY hip-hop music in your movie)
So.. You get some cameras which you don't know how to operate and you recycle one of Ed Wood's old scripts about giant brain-stealing monsters from space and then you hire some game-testers who tell you that glowing blue brains are IT this year!
And then, because you think it will be dramatic, you say your main character accidentally knocked up his girlfriend and of course that's what's really important to both him and the aliens. So, you know, you act all scared for the first part of the movie, then get all badass on the aliens towards the end and then, you finally realize that what you REALLY wanted to do all along was make a video game so you really dork up the ending and leave it set for video game tie-ins.
Seriously, this is the worst film I've seen since Battlefield Earth. Skip it unless you work in a call center and live in your parents basement.
