Moving is complete.
Everything is out of the apartment.
Apartment cleaned and keys returned.

You know. I must say. Even with all our stuff cleared out of the place and everything cleaned spotless... That place was still a warren and a dump. Long narrow hallways, dingy, and the rooms were small. I think most of the square footage of that place was invested in an interior stairwell, two long narrow hallways, an almost unusable half bath, and some rather unusable closets.

On the other hand, it was cheap, near the train, bus, and my work, let us have our cats and super-efficient washer.

Finally, it should be noted that the neighbors, who'd long been a point of stress for me because they would steal anything not nailed down became perhaps the place's greatest asset come time to move and thin stuff.

I rolled out some plastic, put up a big sign that said, "FREE STUFF!" and put anything I didn't want there and it was gone within 5 minutes.

Sure, a garage sale would have been nice. Could have used a little extra money, but the lack of hassle required to get rid of stuff was certainly a bit of a boon. In the end we only had to take two things to the dump and one of those, 5 minutes after it was dropped at the dump, someone came by and expressed sadness that they hadn't been able to pick it up sooner because they'd wanted it. Doh. (The sign had stated when stuff was going away though so I didn't feel that bad)

So. Now I'm sitting in the sunroom of the new house, looking out at redwoods and open sky. One of the skylights is literally right above my desk so I can look up at trees and sky. It's so quiet that all I can hear is my own typing and the breeze through the trees. Oh yes. This is what I'd hoped it would be.

Glad to hear the move went okay. Before my last movie I had considered a $1 tarp sale -- each item (or bundle of items) is $1. You have to word things like that carefully and not say 'Everything on the tarp is a dollar' otherwise some wise-ass will want the entire lot for $1.

Even that would have been a hassle to set up and monitor so I didn't bother.

No more trips from here to there? All cozyed up in your house? Stuff out of boxes? Good feeling!

No, half the boxes are under a tarp, and most of those are plastic, so it's no worry. Also, I grew up with constant rain, so I know how to operate such devices and keep things dry ^-^

But no more driving on a daily basis.
