In the beginning... God created booty
Feb. 16th, 2010 09:24 amA few weeks ago,
paka and I flipped through Crumb's Illustrated book of Genesis. It was of course quite horrifying in the way that all Crumb drawings are. He stayed faithful to the book with every line and drew every nasty little detail. It is an unbearable yet awe-inspiring masterpiece of his work, making the bible both more real and more loathsome than ever before.
Predictably, some Christians are upset. They're very angry with Mr. Crumb for making their holy book so sordid and dirty. They accuse him of warping the stories to fit his sick little mind, almost as if they never read the book themselves.
Personally, I thought it was brilliant. Too horrible to look at, this is probably the version of the bible that is contained in the Ark of the Covenant, having somehow fallen backwards through time. If you look at it, it will sear your eyes and make them melt as it tells you the story of God.
Well done, Mr. Crumb, you horrible horrible man. :)
