Designer Jeans
Sep. 16th, 2009 09:38 amLast night as I patched up three pairs of jeans, I suddenly wondered if the designer jeans that look like worn out jeans will be going out of fashion now that a lot of people might actually poor. I've kind of enjoyed my thiftiness being chic.
I do hope that if mainstream fashion swings away from the thrift store look that it at least heads somewhere more interesting than polo shirts. Blah. At lunchtime recently I've been working on figure drawing of people walking past. Well. I did for a while but actually, it's pretty dull. 90% of the people who walk by are 30-something men in kaki pants with either a polo shirt or a button-down. They are all a bit portly and have a surprisingly limited variety of hairstyles. It's like a sea of clones.
I really should have drawn more people at Burning Man. *sigh* I guess I can go to the Ren Faire at Casa De La Fruita and draw people in costume or perhaps take a ton of photos for drawing later, though I really prefer to draw from life than photos. Folsom St. Fair is coming up but the guys in kakis and polos shed them for cookie-cutter leathermen fetish wear and continue to fail t be interesting to draw. There are a few exotic looks there, but it's also so bloody crowded that there isn't really room to draw and I think photographing people there without asking probably isn't cool because there are a lot of closet cases who don't wan their polo-shirt-wearing-friends to know that they're a generic leatherman as well.
BTW. Have I ever mentioned that I hate polo shirts?
Actually, I hate the bulk of mainstream clothing. It's just mass-produced crap. Poorly fitted and has no style. But that's another rant. I have STUFF to do. :)
