Dear gods of cooking, forgive me for this transgression I have wrought.

Last night, I created the truly unholy.

It was a green thai curry that used durian as the base and thousand year eggs as the 'meat'...

I wrought a great evil by actually making this combination rather tasty.

I've heard horror stories about the Durian. Did you wear self contained breathing apparatus during it's preparation? Did you actually cut into it *in* your apartment?

I have never heard of a thousand year egg, however. What is it?

It's a Chinese delicacy: an egg that's been preserved in a caustic mixture of mud and ash. The yolk turns stinky and green, and the white turns into brown jelly. It doesn't take a thousand years, but when it's done, the egg *looks* like it's a thousand years old. :}

I did imagine it didn't actually take a thousand years to make, but yes, it does look like a sort of desiccated mummy of an egg.
