Oh man! Watching a BBC thing on Timothy Leary and they played a clip from some Navy anti-drug thing which claims that if a person gets startled at a certain point in an acid trip, they'll lose their mind, and commit suicide.

I'd love to see this entire film. It looks hilarious! Sadly, I didn't have the title, just the branch it was produced for and the quote. Searched archive.org, youtube, and google video but no luck. *sigh* But.. It's the source of a soundbyte in the song listed in music. Heh.

Some new series called Lie To Me on...I dunno, fox or something. I don't have cable, I stream things....the latest episode had them trying to find out if some nasa test pilot intentionally crashed the experimental plane he was flying. He was on some anti-anxiety stuff that had a side effect of suicidal tendencies in specific situations like....high altitudes and extreme pressure and whatnot.

That was a lot of exposition to just say that your post reminded me of that episode. Sorry.

I love Simon Posford and other Twisted record guys sampling Leary, Burroughs, Watts, and other drug-related stuff. It makes it more fun when I find the original material and listen to it.

Are you referring to the film with the younger kid who goes on about 'when you're introduced to LSD it can be the most important thing in your life, like reading the bible six times or becoming the pope'? I was surprised seeing that clip that he was so young...and now I don't recall where I saw it, either.

A bunch of the other samples are from 'The Beyond Within: The Rise and Fall of LSD' (BBC documentary, 1987). (And apparently a Nova documentary from the 1980's that I can't find an exact reference to. (Possibly: "LSD:25")

From a questionable source:

samples: "I believe with the advent of acid, we discovered new ways to think and it has to do with piecing together new thoughts of mind. Why is it thatt people are so afraid of it? What is it about it that scares people so deeply? Because they are afraid that there is more to reality than they have ever confronted. That there are doors that they are afraid to go in and they don't want us to go in there either because if we go in, there we might learn something that they don't know. And that makes us a littleout of their control." - Ken Kesey (instigator of acid tests) from the documentary _LSD: 25_
"He is not seeing pretty visions, he is seeing monsters....he is losing his mind and he feels it going"....which was a military person talking and pointing at a blackboard with a stick (from the same documentary)
"you're introduced to L.S.D....unless you've taken some other drug, for instance marijuhuana or something, then it's an altogether new thing! you can actually have, um ,a religious experience, which can be more important than reading the bible six times, or becoming pope or something like that, you know?" - Timothy Leary's young son

I don't recognize the middle quote, but that's probably because I'm more familiar with Ott's dub version of the song. Ken Kesey, kinda not a surprise there, but...Leary's son? Interesting!
