This isn't too exciting but I thought I'd put up a page or two out of my sketchbook. I've still been working on doing more real-world coloring (mostly colored pencil)

I feel this is pretty bland. The patterns are interesting but the head is strangely small for the body and it's otherwise pretty uninteresting.

This piece (link to prevent double-image spam for people who read both journals), I did a month or so ago to go with the story of Chaos for my dvnt_spirit account at http://dvnt-spirit.livejournal.com/512.html I actually started doing this one in Illustrator but then did a colored pencil version of it and ended up liking it really well so I thought I'd wait and upload both of them at the same time but then I lost interest in the Illustrator version.

The designs are interesting. You need to work on dynamic active pictures. What is this vixen doing other than posing awkwardly. What should a Celtic vixen be doing? Kneeling in front of some sort of shrine? Standing in front of some hallowed place welcomingly? Hiding from pursuers? Figure draw with your girlfriend. Have her take off her cloths and strike a pose and draw what you see, not what you think a body looks like. It's a constant struggle to get anatomical parts proportional and looking right.

There is also the interesting effect caused by the way the eye processes color from an LCD screen. On my laptop, the picture looks truly three-dimentional, with the vixen standing out in front of the background. An unintended effect (I imagine), but it does draw the eye.

No. Actually that was the only good thing about the picture. What you're seeing is a combination of two things. The warm/cool contrast of the character and background colors. Character's colors are extremely warm and bright, the background is cool and dark. Also, due to the way I colored the background, it's slightly out of focus so like in a movie. You can see all the texture and detail in the character but the background is smooth and slightly blurred. (I did this by rubbing turpentine into the background)

It's a thing I picked up from some other artwork I was looking at and decided I wanted to try playing with. Still. Not a very good piece but I'm happy at least one part worked. :)
