Swiped this link from Triggur. It's a demo of some new video editing software. I can see where it's going to have trouble in a few spots but it's really awesome none the less.

This is really neat -- it's the kind of thing I'd seen when my old roommate would bring back video demos from SIGGRAPH.

The effects stuff is still in heavy development according to the discussion in the comments. Check out the other videos from that guy; there's a really nice-looking mask-rotoscope tool that lets you turn the image in 3D and see it as a slice through time.
