Rainstar and the Amanita Avenger
Jun. 2nd, 2008 09:23 amOr, as we started calling one another, Super Smurfette and Strawberry Shortcake Extreme.
So... I got all the costumes done. Sorry, no pictures at the moment, but I think they worked.
Stacey's costume was bright blue spandex top and tights with a white vinyl miniskirt and white vinyl boots. She had a shiny cloud emblem with a pink star.
Mine was... I... couldn't come up with a better idea so I became the Amanita Avenger. I modeled my skirt of an umbrella. It was bright red silk rayon (it was cheap) and then decorated with white 'warts' made of felt, and sitting atop a white tulle underskirt for the gills and to make it stick out like a mushroom cap. White top cut at the midriff with 3/4th sleeves and pinned to the shoulders, smaller mushroom caps made the same way as the skirt. I was going to wear my white vinyl boots with it but my stupid toe told me this was a bad idea and I ended up wearing something more comfortable.
All in all, I think I looked quite ridiculous, but that was half the point, no? :) Anyhow.. No one else seemed to think so. We got wolf-whistled on the street on the way into the club. Inside the club, people apparently thought I was edible. I had a few people pantomime breaking off pieces of my 'cap' and take a bite of them. Lots of people talked to me and said they loved my costume, and my ass got grabbed twice (both times by women. O_o ) Um.. So. Success! Stacey also had a good time and got compliments. Yay! ^_^
Letsee. So, about the setup they'd done, it was awesome. the first chamber was themed in... Fluorescent Mushrooms, and a human-sized statue that I can only describe as, "If Kali and Usagi Yojimbo had a baby together." I admit it was the coolest piece of 'furry' art I've ever seen. :)
Doorways from there went to two 'outdoor' areas. One covered and the other open. The DJ and the main dance floor were in the covered area. The fire eaters and the rocket ride were in the open area. There were also big projector screens in both areas.
The fire eaters were awesome and ate lots of fire. The rocket was kind of like a mechanical bull or a giant hobby horse and was also lots of fun, though it was about the same girth as the cannon in my LJ icon. ;)
Behind the DJ there was an area that was fenced off with big cloth hangings. Inside were more mushrooms and a model rocket ship which had mix-and-match aliens inside made out of fluorescent sculpy. Yay! :)
We danced for quite a while and had a good time, then stuck around for a while and helped a bit with their tear down, though they've apparently done this a lot and were really quick and we weren't very needed.
The night ended on an exceptionally geeky note, wherein on the way home, I first debated whether or not Santa Claus was a super hero and then, after deciding he was, tried to figure out the cheapest way to build him in Champions. I think he's actually pretty lower power if you consider that his powers only work once a year and are all through Obvious Accessible Foci. Though, rather than make his sack of toys as a variable power pool, I think I'd just give him 'ultra wealthy' and have the elves and reindeer hired as minions and the toys could be bought via this mechanism. Then the bag could be a dimension door to his warehouse with a very limited use (only toys) or he could have a teleport power which can only teleport toys long distances and can only teleport him from one end of a chimney to another. It _might_ be cheaper to combine those two into a very low point VPP but I don't know offhand. I'd definitely put the power on the bag though to knock the point cost down. Especially since, due to the nature of his business, they'd need to be No Endurance... Or perhaps charged by milk and cookies... Though I was thinking of taking those as a physical addiction disad.
*cough* Um. Anyhow...
