White Elephant

Bah. Holidays.
So we had kind of a christmas party at work today and one of the things you could do was participate in the 'White Elephant' gift circle thing. Bring in a present that's within the $10 to $15 range and everyone draws a lot and choses a present at random. Later draftees can 'steal' your present and then you can pick a new one or steal another one. Presents were supposed to be a bit silly.
Being me, I had to do something particularly odd. Luckily, there's a craft store going out of business right now and at 40% discount, I was able to make $15 go a long ways.
So my gift was 5lbs of non-toxic air-hardening white clay, a packet of aluminum armature mesh, a set of cheap acrylic paints, and a little bottle of sealant.
I then stayed up all night and composed this book:

Contains some minimalistic instructions for how to build your own elephant and a list of uses for newly created white elephant.
I even built a demo model. :)
Sadly, my package was picked just as two people's families (both containing small children) arrived so it was opened but immediately set aside and sort of forgotten. Par for the course. Something always steals my thunder when I do really elaborate stuff. The package I chose contained a set of 4 coasters that are pictures of cat's asses, a cat's ass car air-freshener, and a plastic nose pencil-sharpener. For obvious reasons, no one else wanted to 'steal' that fine gift. There were many cool things tho. I envied the blue LED abstract art clock most, though I admit it's purely nerd bling. Ohwell. It was interesting to attempt being social, and even if I failed miserably, I had a good time doing a bunch of quick spontaneous art that was mostly just variants on a theme.
