Hideous Animals

Last summer when I was in Seaworld, I got a chance to look at a walrus up close. They're hideous. Not content with their hideousness, I decided to try pushing it a little and see what I could get. I stopped. I could go much much further but I ran out of page.

Hippos are tied with walruses for horribleness, though as far as I know, walruses do not spray feces on things to mark their dominance so perhaps the hippo is worse. This could be pushed a LOT. One of these days I'll get around to filling a sketchbook with just taking a single animal type and pushing it as far as I can. (Why yes, I did like Michael Gagne's Insanely Twisted Rabbits. It's helped my art tremendously!)

And finally, the beautiful Okapi handled by a really lousy artist. Okapis are SO beautiful. I saw one in the San Diego zoo and it was like something that had stepped right out of a Miyazaki film. They're gorgeous. Regrettably, I tried for several pages but wasn't able to capture their beauty. So eventually I gave in and went back to drawing ugly things.

Hidden in the middle of the page (in plain sight, not really hidden at all) is an extremely generic bunny from a gothy macabre type comic.
I'll be scanning and dumping a lot of stuff from my last two sketchbooks the next few days. I haven't been posting sketches but I've been drawing a lot. Just figured I'd try to spread it out a bit.
