Anyone planning to do NaNoWriMo or know anyone that's planning to do it? I'm sorta thinking about trying it but also that I need a positive peer circle if I'm doing it.

The NaNoWriMo site has a lot of good resources, and I'm pretty sure they have a few mailing list encouragement if that helps.

I've tinkered with the idea, but with my schedule lately, I'm lucky if I can even flesh out my character for Tim's game. (Which I need to work on tonight, I've dragged my tail feathers long enough in that regard).

Hope that little tidbit helps, and I'll try to dig out some more goodies as well.

Kudos,
Raven

I'm funny in that I know I don't have time for it in my schedule. That's part of why I'm going to do it. Force myself to work faster. :) Yeah. I was going to take a look at the site later. Just thought I'd explore my own peer group first.

I'm planning to do it as well. This will be the 6th attempt without a single win yet. I am trying to get as many people as possible involved so that I have lots of people beating me over the head.

Oooh. An old pro! Have you mostly done it solo or have you had a support and peer group of fellow writers?

Not exactly a pro since as I mentioned above, I've never won yet. But I've seen NaNo grow since it's early days. I have always tried to go it alone and I think that's the majority of my problem. This year, my girlfriend is doing it as well which will be some nice local support at least.

I'm kinda interested, but it's intimidating for several reasons. Maybe we can talk this one over at some point?

Give Sammi a call Wednesday about hanging out. Also, we're apparently on for Friday... Bring Arkham Horror if you can, we can teach Sammi D&D if not.

We're always on for Friday unless one of you cancels ;)

I can run a D&D campaign if folks want, we rolled up characters last week. Iron Kingdoms FTW :)

And I can always use my random plot generator for Champions or Toon or TfOS. :)

We tend to like a more immersive "serious" (yes I realize the irony in saying 'serious' with an RPG :P ) kind of roleplaying than Toon. Goofy and off the wall are fun once in a while, but we all have the itch to actually play characters we care about (although I did come up with an idea for your superhero goofy game of a guy with Red Bull implants studding his body like cybernetics that gets his super speed from the injection system ;) ) I'd dig a Champions game with some meat to it too, got a closet full of ideas I never got to run. The penalty of constantly moving around for the last five years or so, never got a good gaming group anywhere. Except for a Hawaiian sense of time game, i.e. meets once a month if lucky and maybe 30 minutes of gametime ;)

TfoS is ... ?

I'm planning on doing it, just for the sake of doing it. If I won, it would be the 3rd year out of four. :) Mostly, I'm in it for the way that it looks, rather than what it says and suches.

My interest in doing it is because it would really press me to work fast and loose and that's a good way for me to work.

I wonder, even though it's not specifically stated.. you could consider a picture to be a thousand words or something, and for every completed one, it counts as that, so you can draw and write. Be all multimedia and suches.

I considered doing it this time, but the current book would slap me around like a cheap hooker for cheating on her (not to mention what the birds would do to me lol). I'll likely be doing an "internal Nano-nanu" and trying to keep pace with the contest's page count to boost my determination on the current project. Not the same thing, I know, but gotta find fuel for the fire where you can.

Nah. I totally think that counts. The whole idea is just to share energy with other writers and build off one another.

All right, it's a deal then lol. I'll make my goal 50k words on the book. With a little luck and some work before November starts I might actually be able to get the bloody thing done in that timespan (although there's no way I'm limiting myself to 100k on the first book, the story would suffer, no matter what Stackpole says). No edits, no rewords, no seven hours trying to figure out one guy's name (I've done that before; I dig the names I finally do come up with but damned if it isn't the hardest part of writing for me).

That'll leave December for editting and maybe, with a little luck, I will finish the bloody thing a year after truly starting it.
