Here's your little dose of the world I cam from. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hYCD4Gu5sgpDRm3qzPcAyhDNNLDQ Sure, this stuff happens everywhere you say. However, I contend that it happens ALL THE TIME there.

You know... We've had a couple decades of awareness about pre-natal alcohol and drug use and lead in paint and stuff like that and yet I see no evidence that people are getting smarter or acting less brain-damaged.

Wow. Talk about petty and stupid. The phrase "it's a game" just never sinks into some peoples' heads, does it?

Well, at least he can go to church or make confession, be forgiven with a slap on the wrist and start over with a clean slate...right?

What happened in the story is no different than the same chest-thumping drunk hijinxs that I saw when living in Wisconsin. If you walked into a local Wisconsin bar with any type of Football paraphenalia other than Packers, you were mildly ribbed and teased.

If you walked into a bar wearing *GASP* Vikings gear, that was almost always cause and trigger for an all-out brawl. Having tended bar for a month or two (before I lost my taste for dealing with handsy, foul-mouthed brutes), I saw too much of it.

Too often I am reminded of Aliens - "I say we nuke the site from Orbit - it's the only way to be sure"

Hmm... another case where people choose to elevate one issue to such an impossible importance, that these fights and maulings take place.

Grouped with the having to "act the part" because of the peer pressure built up around these centers...

I guess the one way to understand it is each team is a religion of sorts, and someone comes in wearing an opposing religion's vestments, there's going to be trouble, its their home turf.

To me, its still more lizard brain reaction and pack mentality held over from our less upright walking years. Not something that came of paint thinner fumes, DDT sprayings of kids, or exposure to Pat Robertson... much of reactionary human behavior boils down to these ancient behavior patterns that can be observed in wolves and other social species today.
