So... Now the democrats have control of the senate.

Before we all break our arms patting ourselves on the back, let's make sure they aren't going to be sell-outs and hypocrites. Now is the time to mail your newly-elected congress people and say,

"The people have spoken. We want change and we want it now. You have two years to prove yourselves to be something better than the people you are replacing and you'd better remember how you got here. We're sick to death of spineless cowards handing over our very way of life to an increasingly abusive and authoritarian state. So congratulations and I look forward to the great things you may do. Just remember: You too can be replaced."

Amen. There are aspects of both parties I like and will often mix the parties on my ballot -- but so many Republicans this time around only seemed to be in it for their own gain and to grant favors for their crony buddies.

While just about all politicians have to be guilty of this to some extent -- the latest batch of Republicans I see don't look like they're TRYING to make policies that benefit the nation.

The next two years will be dull, with the government split. It'll probably be much bickering and little progress. Regardless of how the presidential election goes in 2008, the senate is almost guaranteed to swing much further to the Democrats.

I'm hoping the House picks up more third-party and independent seats in '08.

Actually the odds are in our favor in '08: Twenty-one Republican seats will be up for re-election, while only twelve Democratic seats...

Like Michael Rivero says, "...remember, the names on your office doors are written with erasable marker!"

I'm planning to write a letter to both my local representatives as well as Pelosi and Reid, basically saying "Hey, good on ya for taking over the Senate. Now do something with it. Minimum wage increases good. Health insurance good. But how about restoring habeas corpus while you're at it?"
