Wait, I'm confused.

When I was a child, I was forced to memorize chunks of the bible and read stories from it but mostly I hated and let it pass in one ear and out the other without paying attention to it.
So I decided last night I wanted to read Faust, Paradise Lost, The Divine Commedy, and so on, so I thought perhaps I should re-read it, with the intent of just trying to pick up some of the names and stories and to be able to recognize references to it in other books.
By happy coincedence, I happened to hang out with Jon and Ester to night and they mentioned http://www.gutenberg.org which has links to eBooks of a large range of out-of-copyright books.
So I started on the King James bible but I haven't gotten very far. The redundancy of passages, 'God said such and such and such and such happened and it was so' is really annoying. I got it in the first sentence.
Also, it's confusing. How can the Earth be created in 7 days and 7 nights if Day and Night weren't created until the 3rd day? Why does God say to go be fruitful and multiply before he creates Adam or Eve? Why does God create all the animals and then create animals to serve Adam after creating Adam? Why does God create the Garden of Eden in positional reference to the kingdoms of Ethiopia and Assyria? Why was I kicked out of Sunday school when I was child? I think I'm starting to remember.
Also, God says he's punishing Eve but he never says he's punishing all women, and come to think of it, why would he? Their children never ate or touched the fruit, did they? What kind of fair and loving God would punish you for a crime you didn't commit? I can't help it if my parents were stupid.
This is going to be a loooooong sloooow read. I think I'd best stop commenting on it or I'll never get anywhere.
