I haven't written much lately but in truth I haven't had much to write about. I've been working on various small personal projects but mostly I've been consumed by work. I had a presentation last week that went over well enough that I was told I couldn't really talk about it to anyone until it was closer to ready for release because we want a high wow-factor. I guess that's good, right?

Anyhow, I wanted to write with some contempt about Bike to Work Day. For one day a year, a bunch of fucking yuppies park their giant fucking SUVs and 'inconvenience' themselves by riding a bicycle a couple of miles. Meaning they infest the train, overflowing the bicycle commuter car and blather at each other about how great they are because they're commuting on a bicycle for a day or two. It apparently makes a great pick up line. Ugh.

Riding the train is a lot like living in Oklahoma. I like the train, just as I liked the land in OK, but the people are making me crazy. My respect for the common man/woman/vegetable was already pretty low but seems to have dropped considerably in recent months. If I hear one more man blathering about how much his wife loves him, or how he's gonna leave his startup dotcom as soon as he makes money, or one more vain stereotype straight from the 50's pathetic woman blather on about her wedding plans, baby shower, or cattily talk about how her friends are 'bitches' behind their backs, I think I'll throw up. Perferrably on her, so she's got a story she can repeat 400 times in the next two months.

I suppose perhaps my conversations with my friends are equally banal, I'd like to think they're not but for an accidental recording one night. True, they aren't conversaionts about about work or how desperate we are for some nuclear family, but they are pretty pat for us. Different, but perhaps not better. Wouldn't it be nice to have a new conversation every day? Brainstorming, thought provoking, exploring. I guess we do a lot of that, but there's still parts of our conversations that run the same over and over. Need to eliminate those so I can really look down on the I don't see why everyone doesn't have an iPod crowd.

Until I can achieve that, I'll just look forward to next week, when these fucking breeders have quit their bike-to-work mating ritual and gone back to their SUVs.

I believe the context was, 'I don't see why everyone who wants portable music doesn't have an iPod, [assuming they can afford portable music].'

But yeah. Personally, I think your banal conversations were only with Peggy, and mostly that seemed because you two were tired of talking about yourselves yet had never actually talked to each other about yourselves, so the topic kept coming up.

With Ashy, Jon, or (hopefully) me, your conversations are more about the topics of the day, projects, sciences, and very little on the past.

But there is one thing to note: Every time they overflow the bike car is another reason for them to add more bike cars, not less. Go to CalTrain.com and complain!

Oh, and we need to find you some lightweight noise-cancelling headphones - cost is not a issue when your sanity is at stake!

As a complete aside, Gina is having far more fun in 2nd Life than I ever had, but my comp crashed badly and had to be wiped, so I lost your character name. Please look for "Plucky Birdbrain" in there as her chickeny self ;)
