Okay,

Last night, Stacey played Harvest Moon some more, but this time I cooked dinner, made brownies, did the dishes and... Oh yeah. Inked something. :)

So... these two pictures:

are the same pencil drawing but one is inked in Illustrator and one is inked with dip pens. (NOTE: The color lines in the Illustrator one are for neon glows when I finish coloring the two pieces)

I'm trying an experiment to see which looks better: Traditional hand-drawn stuff or stuff done in Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as which takes the most time. So far, it's a mixed bag. The perfectionist in me likes the ability to fiddle in Illustrator and correct perspective lines and things like that when I notice them. As a consequence, I've spent about 8 hours inking in Illustrator compared to the 2 I spent using a quill pen. Illustrator gives me the potential for infinite levels of detail, but quill pen gives me more inspiration to flourish. Adding leaf prints or pictures on bottles is easy in pen but seems to take a lot more effort in Illustrator.
So.. which is better? not sure yet. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'll ask for another review when everything is coloured.

I personally like the hand-inked one better. I always like more organic looking styles, not to mention Illustrator sometimes alters things due to how it does the splines. The expression of the main character is subtly different in both, she seems more relaxed in the hand-inked one. Seems like a cool process though, I'd still like to see how both turn out when fully colored.

I agree. The hand inked one is more...*alive*. And the way you inked her eyes makes it look like she's checking out the other girls. ^_-
