As with everything I find that interests me, I sometimes dive into it with wreckless abandon.

I saw this article posted by someone about a week ago http://www.livejournal.com/community/monican_spies/44607.html It's an interview with Peter Chung about Aeon Fluxx.

As I expressed in an earlier post, I didn't like Aeon Fluxx when I first saw it. My mind was too poisoned with the misconceptions of reality being raised in Oklahoma had left me with. Seeing it now, I can really appreciate it.

Yet I feel really sorry for Chung. Imagine having created such an abstract and distopian, thought-provoking show only to be swarmed and interpretted by the Mundane. People supposing tedious ideas like Aeon and Trevor being married in a previous life to fit their preconcieved notions of how two people should/must interact. It's pathetic.

I made the mistake of looking at the monican_spies community in the faint hope that at least a few posts would just be people being surreal at one another with absolutely no references to the show, just weird and dystopian but I knew in my heart that this wouldn't be the case.

And I was right of course. Icons and fanart of Aeon Flux, arguements on her bust size and the like. All tedious. Clearly if these people want to think in terms of the show, they should sigh at themselves and realize that they are but Breen children pretending to be monican spies. Blah. I feel dirty for having wasted my time.

Then again, just how mundane am I supposing that I'm better or different from them. That's the very nature of being mundane, isn't it? Everyone believes they're better than everyone else, that things which happen to them are unfair and that the world should be handed to them. we're all so much better than that other person. We're all so unique and have done all of these things that no one else has ever done. That's what makes us all so exactly alike and predictable.

Now I'm going to get back to my animation so that I can keep telling myself I'm different from everyone else.

Hm, interesting coincidence... I just re-watched all the original Aeon Flux short films last night, from the box set. This interview explains much about why I found the recent live-action film so unsatisfying, and the original dialogue-less shorts so perfect. Basically the Charlize Theron film violated EVERYTHING that Peter Chung was aiming for in the animation...
