Gee. I wonder why the Republicans would be pushing so hard for this? I mean it's not like they don't control the rest of the media. And say.... Why doesn't this apply to FOX News, who's constantly contributing BILLIONS to the republican agenda?

WHAT???

... Oh, this is so a fightable idea. No FREAKING way are they going to interfer with my freedom of ciritisizing the government by telling me I can't QUOTE THEIR OWN WORDS! THis is so much a violation of the first amendment. Although, it being Supreme Court Judges, there is not much anyone can do to challenge this, is there?

Bloody hell...

Oh, but did you hear about the HS student who's being held on $5K bail for writing a story about zombies taking over his highschool?

I got this through the usual chains, but it also included a nice fundie story... http://buggydoo.blogspot.com/2005/03/dawn-of-brain-dead_01.html

Oh!

To get back on topic: This is important. In the last election, Republican campaigns used fake bloggers, donated nameservices, and otherwise illegal and misleading (actual lying) ads distributed over the 'net to forward their campaigns.

While you may know of how Dean and then Kerry were able to use the internet to get alot of donations, the Republican National committee spent alot of money (illegally) influencing the press and distributing ads which would not have been allowed under the current laws.

That's why it's important they actually pay attention.

...Who knows how it'll go, but I doubt they'll go after links and copied statements. Free press and all.

Four years ago, I'd have dismissed the story and your response as alarmist and paranoid. Two years ago, I'd have thought a little about the story and your response, and thought, this is probably what's going on, but I'm being alarmist and paranoid - maybe that's not it.

And now? I totally agree with your take on this. Canada is starting to look better every day, not just as a place to go away from this bullcrap, but as a place where I could be a citizen and be proud of my country once more.

Sorry. This is a George Bush styled town-hall meeting. Well, except I gave you the benefit of the doubt and let you speak rather than having the secret service investigate you and keep you on the other side of town.

So what gives with coming from FurryMUCK to stalk me on LJ? That's kinda creepy.

Oh yeah. Also, I'm turning on IP logging so really. Don't answer that because the next post I'll send on to LJ abuse. I have no time for trolls.

Sick!
I'm glad I finished high school a couple of years ago, or the stuff I write would put me in jail or a psych ward.

This is nutty -- what they're hinting would require internet content and monitoring regulation above and beyond the call of duty -- all in the name of CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM?

Something sounds phoney here -- Senators McCain and Feingold have argued that we have to regulate the Internet, that we have to regulate e-mail. They sued us in court over this and they won.

I've been a 'Feingold' fan ever since he first ran for Senate in Wisconsin back in 1992. There's hardly anything he's ever proposed or supported that I did't agree with. This doesn't quite sound like something he'd do -- there's got to be more to this story than I'm seeing here -- unless Feingold's become an asshole or something.

It's that the campaigns have to report their spending on the internet... And what help they've received.

Time you can donate all you want - as long as it's yours, and not someone else's, which is the point.

The article is really slanted to sound like they're going to ban linking, and that's totally false. You can't value an article or volunteer based upon the donations they've brought in.
