All the sci-fi and comics channels are in repeat right now so I'm off into 'horror' radio channels now. Keen. Right now I'm listening to The Inner Sanctum Cool. I particularly like the host, Raymond. He's macabre in all the right ways. Like Vincent Price or Orsen Wells. The writeup on that link interests me.

What it misses it his interaction with his corporate sponsor. (A woman identified only as Mary, who works for the Lipton Tea Company) I'm actually rather surprised that Lipton would associate itself with such a creepy-sounding fiend.

Of course, there's a formula to these things. No one that comits a crime can get away alive, and there's almost
always a plo-twist so that the obvious bad-guy is never the actual bad-guy (like Scooby Doo) A few things that strike me as interesting though are these:

All people are given to murder. Even people who are not normally given to the idea of murder can be tricked into killing and when, through gullibility, they do, they too, must die... by their own hand.

In the 1930's when this show first started, people were still executed by hanging. The host ocassionally talks about the public gallows. That in and of itself is creepy to me.

Finally.. Many of the stories are about amnesia and confusion. What makes these even freakier is that they seem to do stories in pairs (probably originally aired years apart) but basically it's the EXACT same story word for word, line or line except for one element and the names of the characters. IE: In one story, the murderer might be a man and in the other, a woman. In another story, there's some family heirloom that someone desperately wants. In one it's a house, in another a painting. All the other elements are identical. Same murders, same suspicions, etc.

When combined with stories about confused memories and amnesia, this becomes REALLY FREAKY because even at a few hours apart, the stories sound only strangely familiar, like some fractured memory. A few days or a week apart and I'd probably not catch on and they'd drive me insane. :)

It's also kind of neat to listen to both the stories and see which one seems more effective.
