Jan. 3rd, 2005 12:37 amWell. Keyboard practice is coming along reasonably well and I feel like I'm already starting to get a lot of use from the keyboard.
I survived about 10 minutes of the FOX News channel today to look at how they do their framing and audio and stuff. My God they're unrepentant. Ten minutes was about 9 and a half more than I could stand. They spin stuff so hard, it's just unbelievable.
They were talking about disaster relief to tsunami victims and went into a list of how conservative owned company X, Y, and Z had donated millions of dollars to aid. Then the kobold-woman-thing went into even more spin, "And how much money have Hollywood celebreties donated?" orc-man: That's hard to judge. They're so elusive about it. There are a lot of anonymous donations of course because they don't want to be under pressure for having donated too little but it's really hard to judge.
Etc, etc, etc. Holy Freakin' Cow.
So anyhow, I collected the data I wanted and went back into editing mode. Used the sustain, split, and dual functions on the keyboard concurrently to create my Faux News sound-effect and discovered that when I set the iRiver thingy to 'Line In' mode that it does a passthrough to the headphones so I could record and listen to what I was recording at the same time with no room noise at all!
In fact, the audio in this project is SO WEIRD. I'm just not used to using audio with no noise floor. All the audio I've put in my older animation has been dirty and gungy filled with tape hiss, background noise, computer noise, gain problems, etc but between using the iRiver (completely solid state and a surprisingly good directional mic) to record the voice audio and using midi and direct audio patches, my audio is coming out fantastically clean.
(If you're wondering why I didn't patch the keyboard line out directly to the computer, it's because I don't have a line in on the computer but since the iRiver records to 44Khz MP3 and I can connect it with a 1M cable, it's probably a better solution overall anyhow. :)
Other than that, letsee... Animation is going slow. Today I baked cookies and made dinner, and did some dishes.
New Years Eve, I picked Peggy up from airport with Jon, read comics, got drunk and watched Mickey Mouse and did various other naughty things; including almost having sex. :) Umm... letsee. made a lot of food and ate it, and in general had a good time and got nothing done. :)
