Ooooh ReeeeeEEEEn
Nov. 14th, 2006 02:50 amuuuung. So my weekend was long. Gridmonkey duty for work was not fun this time around. On the bright side, I went to lunch with Jon on Friday and in the bookstore, he noticed a used copy of the first two seasons of Ren and Stimpy collectors edition. Woo. So I got that and now... My sketchbook is full of Hoeks! Ieee! Stimpys too.
It's funny. I was watching JohnK draw them in one of the 'extras' bits (Sorry Peggy, didn't see you in it) and I was just stunned by how smoothly he can draw them. He draws with these big sweeping smooth lines. Really really beautiful to watch and I was all like "*cry* I'll never be able to draw like that!"
But then I started freeze-framing through and drawing some of the pictures. Admittedly, it's really easy to draw something that you can see but hrm. Something about the way he designed them. They're REALLY easy to draw. My very first attempts just flowed along the same sweeping arcs and felt really smooth and were very close to model (I may scan some of them later but I always feel kind of weird about putting up copy work of other people's art)
Um.. Anyhow. Probably also the animation class I'm taking is helping because he's all about nice arcs too, though he draws a little closer to my normal scratchy style but says he shouldn't do this and neither should we.
Probably going to be studying a lot more R&S for the next few days. There's some things I REALLY love in them. Like how the action lines of the body are expressed in the hands. When Ren is angry or confused his fingers are every which way. When he's waving his arms in a circle, his fingers are in a pinwheel sort of configuration. It's great! Similarly, he does anticipation for EVERYTHING! Like one one wild take, before the head gets huge, it gets REALLY TINY. It's HILARIOUS looking and you don't even really see it on the screen but wow it works so well!!!!
Um.. So anyhow, enough fan-girling from me. Looking through my sketchbook did also remind me I hadn't posted anything in a while, so I'm going to do that next in a separate post.
