So, things are looking up, I think. Yesterday I rode the train to/from work and while I was on the train I brainstormed over my list of feedback I'd received for Free as a Bird and broke it down into things that were easy to do, things that I had to do to make it submittible (add credits, fix last shot, etc) and then things needed to make the story more readable.
The major understanding issue seemed to be that people initially weren't sure if the door the cat tried to sneak out went to outside or went to the room where the bird was. They also had a little trouble with the geography of the house. In addition to this, from a techincal standpoint I'd note that the staring otu the window shot is too static for too long and that the sneak towards the door reverses the camera angle which is a no-no. After some thinking, I realized if I gave up my mental sense of the geometry of the room I could fix all of these problems by making about 20 frames worth of changes.
Instead of looking right over his shoulder I'll have the cat tilt his head to look at something out the window after the door sound, then cut to the person walking down the walk, then back to the cat, who turns and looks inside the window, then cut to the door in perspective and THEN cut to the sneak. Head turns are easy and should go very fast. Person walking away in Z axis.... Well.. I allocated most of my remaining work time for this. Anyhow, that fixes nearly every one of the major problems and gets me down to the 'nice to haves' list.
Sooo. Yay! I will get this done! Then I just have to smoke and re-photo it in time for FC. O_O
