On the way back from San Francisco, Stacey and I went down the coast and stopped for a bit of a hike. Really nice forest. Just as it was getting dark, we came across an area with some orange mushrooms poking up. It was getting dim and we had a fair way to hike. I thought they were lactarius of some sort, though they didn't bleed. Picked one for further examination.

After getting home, I took a closer look and suddenly realized I'd passed up a couple of pounds of really excellent chantrelles. I think I'm going to cry.

I also saw a couple of grisettes which were beautiful but I did not pick. Amanita family still scares me.
