Cyanide and Murder

I had been growing catnip for our cats. Until yesterday, it was indoors. They would nip a leaf off it and roll around but not harm the plant unduly. There is a neighbor cat somewhere around here that is not so restrained in their use. This morning the plant (which was fairly large) was crushed to an almost unrecognizable pulp. *sigh* My guess is that it's probably an non-neutered tom cat. Catnip binds to pheromone receptors so for our cats it's like "Oooh. That's a little bit of hotness." whereas for a tom, the thinking is likely more along the lines of "MY GOD THIS WILL MAKE ME THE SEXIEST THING ALIVE! I MUST HAVE IT ALL!"
On a more positive note, when working in the garden last night, saw a beautiful Yellow-Spotted Millipede (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpaphe_haydeniana) You've got to respect a creature that can exude hydrogen cyanide if you bother it. This one was about 8cm long. :)
