pasitheaWeather this weekend was gorgeous. Warm and balmy with a clean breeze. On Saturday I went to the farmers market in the morning and then did a fair bit of housework and some yard work. Discovered that there are strawberries and lemon balm growing wild in our yard. Hurray! I like both of them quite a bit.
On Sunday, foxgrrl and I went hiking. We parked at the Safeway in Felton and walked down a trail that runs along the river. Saw some really beautiful groves of trees. We found lots more lemon balm growing wild as well as some edible puffballs (although I didn't collect any because they are not my favorite fungi) We also went near where I'd found some panus conchatus a week before but I skipped those as well.
We played on a sandy beach at the river for a few hours and I went for a brief swim, then did yoga and meditation for quite some time. Sand, it turns out, is really great for doing wide stretches.
On the way back, the lemon balm that I'd found everywhere turned out to be quite useful as the mosquitoes came out in force and we hadn't brought any repellant. I quickly discovered that the best way to use it is to rub some on your skin and then really put a lot of the oil just where the cheek curves inwards beside the nostril. Then as you exhale, it carries the citronella of the lemon balm with your breath and drives off the mosquitoes. While walking, rolling a leaf between your fingers to slightly crush it also helps drive them away.
All in all, not a bad weekend. ^_^
