A drawing from my sketchbook from a couple years ago. This is actually my third attempt at it. The first two I tossed after spending many hours on them. I just couldn't get ArtRage to do quite what I wanted.

So... I decided it was time to do more brush and texture experiments in photoshop. Lots of fiddling with custom brushes and then a filter layer thrown over the top and some selective cropping. At the very least it was an interesting experiment. I sort of like it, though I believe it's more interesting in close up than in thumbnail.

I plunged into the icy roiling water. The current dragged me down into the depths, rolling me head over heel. My lungs burned. I struggled towards the surface. I might have made it were it not for those eyes. The cold slithering embrace of my harsh new mistress.

Was the photoshop filter necessary so it would look clear while the earth was shaking?

Nah. It's to give you an idea of how it would look as a shower door.

This sounds like it was influenced partly by that one time up at Belden?

Partly. I did the base drawing about a year before when I was at Symbiosis. I was trying to draw different elemental forms of self identity and this is the one that came out as water. I don't think this one was so predatory as the thing in the feather river. I was really in a weird space that day. But yeah, when coloring it, I was drawing more from Belden than when I did the original sketch. It's sort of a mash-up of two pieces of headspace.
