...YOU TEN DOLLARS AT TARGET!!!!

So... This door hanger is from the most obnoxious church in the area. Right wing and (as demonstrated, the very classy variety of right-wing nuts at that)

If I had a few more friends and lots of ambition, I'd suggest organizing a flash mob. Have maybe a thousand or so people show up and demand their gift cards and possibly bankrupt the psychos so they stop sending out stuff like this. If anyone has any friends in Anonymous who recognize that Scientology isn't really much more of a scam than any other major religion, send them this. Maybe they can do something with it.

Or does God reserve the right to refuse service to anyone? I wonder...

That flier is a contractual offer (unless there's fine print you're not showing), I say we flash-mob 'em. I'll even show up with my great-grandma's large print illustrated bible from 1920 (it's a large and impressive tome which looks unquestionably like a bible) just to confuse them that much more.

Some part of me insists I pop my head up and say, "The idea of confronting and exploiting them is entertaining... and I don't say for a moment it shouldn't be done... but shouldn't we also ask what we can learn from these guys? 'Cause these methods are tacky, but they're also successful. Are pranks alone going to help our ideas outcompete theirs?"

I still hope you do the flashmob and gleefully look forward to the results. ^_^

No fine print but the 'This Sunday' is probably the catch. You'd have to be very quick to organize a mob.

I dunno... If your options are 'be tacky and crass and win' vs 'be stylish and tasteful and die with honor', I'm probably going to pick the later over flip-flops and pink polyester shorts.

I've already made this choice once in my life though. Be the good little soldier my family wanted or be cut off and live my life as I am.

I do see your point, sorry for treating it lightly. I'm not feeling very sharp today.

Assuming that's the same as http://www.nvbc.org, it appears to be a pretty good sized church. They average about 3000 in attendance each Sunday, if each person tithes properly (10%), using the county-wide per capita income of $32,795, that would come out to an income of just under $10,000,000 per year, not counting donations above and beyond tithing. They've also got an associated K-12 school and a college.

Even 1000 extra attendees wouldn't make much of an impact on their finances, I'm afraid.

I wish I could stop in, pick up the coupon, and promptly leave, because I think Jesus would sympathize with my desire to have more plaid boxer shorts.

Now wait. I call shenanigans. This can't possibly possibly be right! A church offering Target gift cards?

I'd have expected them to live up to the stereotype and use WalMart gift cards instead.
