I think the 'realistic' version of him only makes him MORE awesome. That Popeye looks like he'd seriously beat the snot out of someone. I wish they'd make a movie with this guy doing the character designs.

I used to like Popeye cartoons until I grew up and figured out that the whole thing was about a competition between he and Brutus to acquaintance rape Olive Oil.

I forget where I originally saw the Popeye image, but it's actually a rendition of what he would look like today if he were a real person, i.e. 90+ years old.

Actually, in the comic he's 90 years old. he also has no teeth. He's just really awesome that way.

If you let that popeye near a boat, forget about it, there are going to be kraken, and sirens, and jewel studded fur whales to persue to the ends of the earth, cannibals, pirates, you name it. That is a sailor who has seen too much right there. You can bet that isn't tobacco in his pipe he's got saltwater in his veins, anything less than top grade Thai opium does nothing for him. Namor and Aquaman may be the kings of Atlantis, but those pansies don't make a move unless popeye gives the nod.

Also I'm sill apparently the preadolescent boy who got some of his first cartoon inspired boners over Jessica Rabbit. I'm embarrassed over how I'm fawning over that picture.
