So I was reading about Quanah Parker, and how he might've gotten that into peyote when he was desperately ill because it actually has some antibiotic properties. I was wondering if you'd ever heard of anything like the antibiotic chunk of chemistry associated with this stuff before, and was curious whether mescaline has anything similar going on?

Yeah, there's Peyocactin which is a type of Hordenine. There's also quinolone in some related cactii which is also a strong antimicrobal. Both sets of chemicals are alleged to be effective even against penicillin-resistant staff.

Makes sense really. Cacti are slow-growing plants that store water and live in frequently harsh environments. Not surprising they'd have some good mechanisms for defending themselves.
