Or guy help, if you happen to know where I can find this:

I'm looking for one of those tiny glass vials that perfume samples come in. The ones that are about as big around as a pencil and about an inch or so long.

Anyone have one or know where I could find one?

I've got so I hate showing a working in progress before it's done but... It's for this:

It's a wild deer's leg bone case that will contain a crow quill pen, parchment, and a miniature inkwell (IE the vial)

I still have to do the scrimshaw and polishing on the case. Just finally got the nerve to do the cuts. I was hoping that the bottom end would be big enough inside I could use a tiny vial from the bead store but it's not big enough.

I suppose, worst case, I can get some more map gas and some glass tube and make my own ampule, but the last thing I need right now is another project. So if anyone has one or has any other simple ideas (I'd like to avoid plastic, would consider using brass or copper tube) I'd appreciate them.

This object is going to be made to be worn so whatever the solution is, it needs to be pretty resistant to leaking ink all over the wearer.

Hell. There was a box of a gross of screw-top vials, about that size, in my glassware that you wrapped and packed. :(

I ordered it from a supplier on eBay. In your neck of the woods, The Science Shop sells them in a variety of sizes.

I suppose another option would be to go to a department store and see if anyone's giving out free samples. Those little plastic tops aren't very sturdy, though; I'd definitely go with a screw-top vial.

Awesome project, by the way. I look forward to seeing the finished version!

The glass in those is fairly sturdy. I was just going to sand a bit of dowel to fit and make a tight wooden stopper for it. It will be inside the bottom section of the bone case so it shouldn't get jostled much. Trying to avoid modern materials as much as possible though. It's a woo item for someone.

It's kind of nice to revisit making stuff like this. I did a lot of this sort of work when I was younger. I'd thought about making this into a knife handle but it's a bit long for that and it didn't seem to want to be part of a knife so I've been holding it for about a year, figuring the right person and idea would show up eventually, and a couple weeks ago, they did. :)

Arg... I'm CERTAIN at one point I've had one of those bottles you were talking about in one of my piles of junk (pencil diameter... a little over an inch long). I might still have it but it could take a while to find it -- if no-one else can find one for you I can start digging around for it.

Not the size you're looking for specifically, and probably not usable for this project, but I have dozens of medical vials (10ml capacity, 5cm tall, 2cm across at the base, cylindrical until the top where it quickly tapers down to a 1cm wide neck).

If you ever want one (or several) of those, let me know. I started saving them for projects years ago and just kinda never stopped.

Find someone who sells Avon? My mother used to sell the stuff, and she had tons of perfume sample vials just lying around.

You might be able to make a small vial with a blow torch and a glass eye dropper. Just melt the tip until it's sealed, then you could seal the open end with a cork.

Yeah. Considered that, but I'd like a stronger neck for stuffing a cork into it.

You might check out that BPAL site. A friend sent me a vial of that stuff that seems to be of the nature you're seeking.

That site looks like it'd get me added to a DEA watchlist. :)

Thanks though. :)
