Ah Republicans! So the only hope for AmeriKKKa is for Osama Bin Laden to detonate a nuclear weapon in a large city and thus save us from ourselves.
God only knows what will happen if he doesn't save us from ourselves! Healthcare for all the citizens, good schools, treating one another with respect and dignity.
SAVE US OSAMA BIN LADEN! YOU'RE OUR ONLY HOPE.
(And cue Star Spangled banner and sparklers, cut to waving flag)
I propose a compromise. How about this: If they're willing to have millions of people die to see their dreams come true, we round up all the Glenn Becks and their like, put them in a big group somewhere, then find Bin Laden and let him kill them all. Surely these patriots, are willing to lay down their own lives for their vision.
Sheesh. You know... Obama may be falling short of 'everything I'd hope for in a president' but the "At least he's not one of these fucks" is still so high that I have a hard time criticizing. Any step back from the brink is probably a good one.
Truth be told though, I am a little edgy about this weekend. I've figured if the racist ignorant lunatic right-wing fringe is going to do anything, the two days that are most likely are tax day (already passed) and 4th of July, and the 4th is probably a bit more likely because while I love hot weather, it seems to make a lot of people bugnuts.
All in all though, I'm pretty sure they're mostly too wrapped up in their own comfort and TV sitcoms to actually do anything, and I'm extremely skeptical any kind of large scale attack could happen or have even the slightest chance of success. Still. I don't relish these morons killing even a handful of people so lets hope there's something especially good on TV for them to watch.

Domestic terrorism? Harder to catch. And less publicized because the people who do it are almost always Christian rightwingers. For Moslem terrorists to do something on US soil requires a huge amount of care and organization - and then not being stopped by the same, very competent people whom we had in place to protect us in 2000 and before. For some Christian rightwinger to pull domestic terrorism just requires easy access to firearms, maybe the purchase of some fertilizer, and local law enforcement being busy elsewhere.
'Course, rightwingers in the USA don't for the most part have to do anything. All they need to is absorb a steady media bias, vote like the rest of us, maybe pitch money at huge lying ad campaigns, rely on politicians to play it safe rather than to show heart or spine... and they win. I fully expect that in 4-8 years, no matter how well or poorly the Obama Administration does, our rightwing brothers and sisters will vote us right back to 1984, 1986, 1988, 2002, 2004, 2006, whatever.
In the meantime individuals blather to look big, and the media lets them. If a no-name leftwinger so much as pitches a rock at a policeman during a protest it's a shock and a horror, but if a rightwinger says on the air that people deserve to be murdered, it barely causes a ripple. What sort of unempathetic crapwad could preach such horrible things? That's rhetorical, of course, I know the answer; an unempathetic crapwad who makes money off of riling people up. Who knows if they're sincere or not? If they're sincere they're dangerous scum. If they're not sincere, they're merely manipulative scum.
I don't like my right-leaning fellow citizens much, but apparently unlike I don't want them to suffer and die. I feel like the same system which screws me and mine screws them and theirs, because ultimately the real problem isn't about terrorists, or Queers, or taxes, or socialism, or Mexicans, or a lack of Christian values, or secular humanists waging war on Christmas or whatever I'm supposed to believe in as our threat-of-the-day - it's instead that a batch of rich assholes have clued in on easy ways to keep those of us who aren't upper middle class in line.

In my state there are only 2 restrictions on gun ownership, the two restrictions are laid out by the federal government, enforced by the ATF. If I want to buy a gun across state lines I'll need to pay a special tax of several hundred dollars. If I want to own an automatic weapon I have to go through a federally licensed dealer, and he has to spend like, an entire week to get that license! I know of a web page where I can look up these licensed dealers and where their dealerships are. They're overwhelmingly in residential areas. They're just good Samaritans who want to want to help god fearing folks import exotic automatic weapons for uh... personal defense, of course.
Mexico has some stricter gun laws, but what all the dealers who live around me are doing is entirely legal on our side of the border, facilitating in buying up military grade weapons and selling them off to agents for drug cartels who operate in Mexico. No one is going to legislate against that, no one is even talking about it. Yeah, there's the big left wing anti-2nd amendment conspiracy at work.

Aside from that, yes, I can't really believe some of these right wing assholes, they just don't make sense to me. And of course being in many many demographics they target isn't any fun either. So far I feel mostly safe in this country, but who knows.
