I didn't get to work on the new bike as much as I'd have liked yesterday. I had to go to the Moon, but I did get a new pair of used whitewalls for it for 10 dollars that are in fantastic shape. Still basically new. I'm pretty sure they guy I got them from just didn't like the style. He had several custom built bikes in his shed and these are a chinese made pair with barely any wear on them, but the edge where the white meets black isn't very clean. They'll be fine for me though.

Also tore the wheel hubs apart. The bearings were great shape. No wear, no rust. Since this bike is going to go to Burning Man, I packed them with a lot of a heavier weight grease. It's a bit more resistance than you'd really want for 'normal' riding, but for riding in talcum powder, it should help keep the dust out of my hubs.

bike store was out of the style of brake pad I want for it. Won't get to pick those up for a week. Chain's in good shape, derailleur needs to be tuned, and I need to tweak the rims because they're slightly warped. (I have a funny feeling that, based on the condition and from the dust patterns and stuff that it was standing on its kickstand for.... possibly decades...)

I may also pick up some enamel and see if I can color match and fix a couple of chips in the paint.

If this isn't slang for something, it should be.

ACK! How could I have let out my alien secret so foolishly!?!?!? Err um...

My immediate thought is the moon carving seen on classic outhouses.

Uuugh. Oh man. I have to go to the moon!

I finally got mine all back together and working; needed a new rear rim, as the old one wouldn't stay trued at all and the axle was bent. Also, it's HARD finding one of the size I needed, quite strange.

Randomish question: I've swapped out my rear tire from a knobby one to a mildly treaded one more useful for street use: What sort of wheel is most useful at burning man? knobby or less so, or is it more a function of how wide the tire is?

knobby is good because it catches more surface. Wide is also good.
