Froggy

Well.. Poking around on Craigslist prompted me to buy a second bicycle. I'd been hoping to find enough parts on junk day by raiding other people's throw aways to find enough to build myself a bike for Burning Man but I missed the day and pickings have been slim lately anyhow unless you want 10-speeds or kids bikes.

Anyhow... I found a really totally completely awesome all original 1970's 3-speed Schwinn Beach Cruiser on Craigslist and decided it was the right bike for riding around on the playa.

Last year I took my beloved old Trek but with narrow road tires on it, it was pretty tough going in the sand and my poor Trek got stolen this spring, prompting me to buy a new bike which is a little too 'nice' to take out on the Playa. It'd never run as well again.

So.. I saw this bike, took a test ride on it and was flooded with happy childhood memories of my very first bicycle. Save for having a saddle instead of a banana seat, it feels just like my very first bike. Plus... It's just awesome styling.

It's been kept in a shed and aside from needing some new tires and brakepads due to dry rot, it's in great shape. Tonight I'll get to work cleaning it up, repacking the bearings, etc. Then it's on to customizing and decorating her for Burning Man. :)

In the bottom picture I kept reading it as: NNIMHOS and was wondering if that was some weird Japanese bicycle brand or something.

Honestly, I wouldn't change the frame colors one bit. They're gloriously bright and breezy. Just create something to work with the wheels and add a few doodads.

Heh. Definitely. I really love the color scheme.

Also, at the hardware store there is a solar-powered plastic frog that's on sale and I'm thinking he'd look great mounted in the middle of the handlebars.

I think I'm going to be mounting green and yellow LEDs and a lime colored flag, etc. More or less I'm just going to make it look more 70s. :)
