Is this from a Bambi sequel or something? I can't tell what the characters are saying but just the expressions (especially of the "tough" character", more sneery yet "street hip") tell me the animation is from the 90s or 00s and not from the original.

Srsly, yeah. I understand why they do it, (Train the newbies with something safe) and they make money hand over fist, but yeesh.

It's more than that, it also lets them release something 'new' with old characters and refresh the sales on their merchandise and extend their copyrights. It's part of a whole-market strategy.

It made me smile.

I'll have to watch the direct to video Bambi sequels eventually. I suppose I'm almost like, contractually obligated.

*smriks* That is so wrong. Who ever the other character is... yeah.. in this matter he seems to act like such a priss it doesn't seem that funny... Eh. Sequels make me stab things.

That was better than it had any right to be. I think I posted this about a year ago.

Bambi II is an abomination, a sickly-sweet rehash bereft of originality. That video was good use of the material.

Bambi II did at least openly ask one question people have been wondering for decades... "Isn't 'Bambi' a girls name??"

And now thanks to YouTube's Grumpygrim we can hope that Bambi III will resolve the transgender Ronno question.

Bambi II is a bit of a misnomer ... the original working title was "Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest" and was meant to be a kind of 'midquel' that fills in the gap between when Bambi's mom dies and when everyone gets all twitterpated. This was put out in 2006 as a 'Direct to Video' release.

The 'tough' deer was actually a younger version of Ronno, the deer he gets in a fight with over Faline.

The main plot of this storyline revolves around the Great Prince now having to act as a 'single parent'. I don't think they even bothered opening Felix Salten's book for this one.

According to a documentary in another DVD (I forget which one) some of the stuff in this movie was actually considered in the original Bambi but was cut out.

I'm a big Bambi fan and while most of these Disney sequels to movies that were never meant to have sequels (examp Cinderella III???) are abominations I've always wondered what Disney sequel they'd make with these characters and how it would work out. What they did sorta almost makes some sense.

They aren't really training newbies with something safe. Disney hasn't put an animated film in theaters since Lilo and Stitch, and really I don't think that should count. What was it before that, Aladdin? They don't do feature animation anymore.
