So. On my walks to and from work, I've continued my mycological endeavors. Most everything I've found has been pretty uninteresting. Not deadly poisonous, edible, or even psychedelic. Just sort of 'doesn't taste good, will probably make you vomit' sort of stuff.

For the most part, I've found a bunch of inocybe and concybe. panaleous foensecii is all over the place around here too. I've got so I can recognize several of these rather unremarkable species by sight at a range of a few feet. There's also the ever-annoying Agrocybe Praecox complex. They suck. They are big enough and varied enough to make me stop and look at them for a few seconds before realizing I've wasted my time looking at another lousy A. Praecox.

This morning, I did find a few mushrooms that I believe are argus campestrii but they're so worm-eaten (even though they sprouted last night) that they aren't worth trying to eat (these are also known as the common button mushroom BTW)

The most interesting things I've found lately are a couple of puffballs. The common Earthball (really not that interesting, it's probably the least interesting of the puffballs) and Pisolithus tinctorius, the dead man's foot; also known as the dog-turd fungi. It's truly an ugly thing. It looks like a blackened splitting zombie's sole sticking out of the ground and is crawling with pillbugs.

Apparently it makes good dye.

Other than that, my mycological observations have been a bust.

Although, I did find a really keen little metal turtle buried in the dirt by the side of the road. It is stained like it might have a lot of copper in it but it is mostly iron. Anyhow. It's the best thing I've found in weeks.
