dv_girl: *nod* I ended up reading a book instead of sewing. Only just finished. I think I would have enjoyed it quite well if I were 14. As is, I feel kind of like, "Well. That was mildly entertaining fluff but I probably would have been fine seeing the movie version of it and never having read the book."

dv_girl: Oh and, the quote on the cover says "This is a descendent of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", but only insomuch as an Claudius was possibly an inbred descendent of Caesar.

dv_girl: Good Omens Regrettably, finishing a book of Vonnegut and cleaning out the car coincided.

The most interesting thing about the experience was finding the odd debris jammed between the pages from it having spent years in the trunk of my car.

prickvixen: Hmmmmmm.

dv_girl: There were several leaves, a couple of receipts and one particularly worrisome bit of black something or other that seemed to stain everything it touched.

I should just paste this conversation into Livejournal in lieu of spending the time to write a proper review.

Good Omens is only a descendant of HHGTTG inasmuch as it's a genre comedy from Britain!

I happen to like the book, rather a lot. This may well be due to having been raised in the episcopal church, which has strictly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty.
I do agree, calling it a descendant of HGTG, is missing the point, entirely (insert snarky Marketting remark here, in the hopes that does not hear it).
Certainly, the name recognition of the writers, now, is much higher than it was when it was written.

After observing that one line of commentary here has a word count greater than your entire intercourse ... one wonders what the minimum level of interaction constitutes a "conversation". Such conundrums amuse me.

It was a fun enough book. I just imagined it was going to be something more than it was from the reviews friends gave me. I was enjoyable, just not very thought provoking for me. To be fair, it did come on the heels of reading a bunch of Kurt Vonnegut and that's a rather tough act to follow.
