So... I totally love my new sewing machine EXCEPT for one small detail.

The simulated serging modes just burn through thread (as serging does) and the machine won't tension correctly to take a serger spindle. I tried it but it's just too heavy (unless there's some add-on for the machine to take serger cones. I should look that up.

Anyhow... Serger thread in 3000 or 6000 meter spindles is FAR cheaper than buying 200M spools for sewing machines so... I got clever. Fortunately, I had some old thread from the 70s on styrofoam spools (I actually have some that's on wood spools and is pre-WWI for that matter) But anyhow... I cut the end of a styrofoam spool so it'd fit inside the serger spindle. Then stuck it on my 16MM film splicer and put an empty spool on the other side. With a bobbin as a guide to move the thread back and forth, I then wound serger thread off the spindle onto the empty spool. Woot! Success! (After a couple hours of frustration playing with tension and other ideas to use the spindle directly)

$5 for 3000M of thread beats the pants off of $4 for 200M of thread. :)
