Okay... Now that I've had a few days of working with it... I really <3 my new sewing machine. It's not as contemplative as my treadle but what it lacks in spirituality, it more than makes up for in orgasmicness. Particularly the simulated serger mode that does seam and overcast at the same time. OMG that's better than sex. It's so smooth and straight.

As a first project, I made a simple pair of armlets. For my second, I took on something much more ambitious. I haven't worn my warm wool coat most of the winter because the lining and pockets had completely come apart. I'd got new material to replace it several months ago but the amount of work and required hand-stitching I would have had to do with my treadle were really keeping me from biting the bullet and doing it. Last night, including seam-ripping the old pieces out, layout, cutting new pieces, reassembly, and reattachment took me around 4 hours. It likely would have taken me more like 8 with my treadle and the required hand-stitching. The only thing that slowed me down on this project was that I'd foolishly bought some Sulky thread because it was on sale. I've never used Sulky before and... WOW DOES IT SUCK! Never buying that again.

Aaanyhow. that's all to report for today. I'll hit the Goodwill after work and see if I can find anything interesting to mod into costumes for upcoming raves. Plus I have some stuff cut out for [livejournal.com profile] prickvixen that I need to stitch up and a couple other bits and bobs for Stacey and myself.

I'm always amused by folks who buy up all the trendy crap at a Hot Topic, never realizing that the ones truly on the cutting edge shop at thrift stores. =};-3
