If only we could rewind time to those hazy summer days. Watching Sesame Street and believing the world was big and good and wonderful.

I was in a bad mood yesterday. Then the college radio station started playing music designed to make me less cranky.

How can you listen to this and NOT grin and bounce stupidly?

Unfortunatly I have bad memories of this song -- At one point in grade school (when this was shown regularly on Saturday morning TV a friend of mine would repeatedly sing this song -- badly. He would sing half the lyrics .. hum half the ones he forgot .. and try to 'a cappella' the instrumentals all simultaneously. It was such a mess.

So incredibly innocent and well-intentioned. Stuff like that is a good reminder that we as a species do a lot more than just make money off creating money-making-widgets and then spending money on different widgets to try and feel happier.

Yeah.. these ABC Schoolhouse Rock segments were probably some of the most memorable and HELPFUL 'TV as an educational medium' segments ever produced. Kids didn't feel like they were being force-fed education with these unlike many other educational shows.

The cool thing about this clip is, despite the down-to-earth animation style (of a girl with a rocket for a butt, no less!), in my opinion it succeeds marvelously at being what I call "spacey". I think it's mainly due to the songwriting talents of Lynn Ahrens, but even today, this little clip makes my inner child go oooh and ahhh at the thought of traveling the vast infinite reaches of space and finding strange sights like Interplanet Janet. Even today, the line "the universe has endless mystery" can give me goosebumps.
