Today I was idling outside the used book store, looking at the rack of cheapo books, and one of the ladies who runs the store came out, to greet this woman crossing the street who had apparently left her cane behind. And after thanking the book store lady, saying 'bless you' a few times, the cane lady says "I'm guessing you must be a Christian!" And the book store lady kind of stammered and said she was raised one, but. (meaning she'd wised up at some point, I suppose) And I don't know if the lady with the cane really appreciates her casual bigotry, with her implication that you have to be Christian or religious to be a good person and do good things. Or perhaps she means being Christian automatically makes you treat others well... it's generally been my experience that the most fervent Christians are the ones who need saving the most, if you know what I mean.
