Bah. I said I was going to try to stop being a consumer whore but I'm off to a bit of a bad start.
Just before christmas I gave away my hair dryer. It was old and dirty and cracked. Also cheap and bulky and a hassle to use. It went to a child to use as a power source for a model hot air balloon, so I'm not sad it's gone.
Last week, after working on a sewing project for part of a costume I'm considering doing at FC, I also chucked my iron in the garbage. It apparently had some kind of plastic stuck to it somewhere and put a big black and green mark permanently on something white that I'd just stitched. The item was totally ruined and I had to start all over again. In addition to that, it had calcium build-ups in it, sometimes making it give stuff a yellow stain, the water chamber was leaking AND it started giving inconsistent heat. Sometimes being cold enough to touch on Linen settings after it'd been in use at temperature for a few minutes. Other times, being scorching hot at a Nylon setting. Good riddance.
So now I have both a new iron and a new hair dryer. Neither is very fancy or 'high end' but then again, neither are things I use on a regular basis. Now I should just convince myself to throw out the costume I made and buy a real one. I probably won't though. Blah.
