Feel the love of God's boot!
Jan. 1st, 2007 10:10 amHurray for people who are so pious, they feel no remorse in beating the crap out of an old woman for their lord! YAY!

And for all the stupid fucking racists in the audience who might use this as 'proof' that teh jews are ebil and you are righteous, please note that in saying that and looking at them with contempt, you are the EXACT SAME as these men who kicked this woman. Calling someone a stupid american who doesn't know her place is identical to calling someone a dirty jew who doesn't know their place.

Date: 2007-01-01 07:48 pm (UTC)Yeah, I think anybody who draws the conclusion from this that Judaism or religion are inherently oppressive would be totally missing the point (and probably reinforcing their own dumb monkeybrained prejudices). On the other hand, religion does often serve as both a breeding ground and an excuse for stupid primate tribal-enforcement behaviors that are constantly looking for outlets. It's just far from the only such breeding ground.
I think that's what happened here: some people saw their social boundaries threatened by a perceived outsider and they acted like a bunch of dumb apes. The religion defined those boundaries, and if they'd lived under a religion or culture that was less rigorous and authoritarian this probably wouldn't have happened... or they would've just found some other excuse to fling poo at the outsider.
None of which incriminates the religion itself, none of which excuses its fundamentalist version, and none of which excuses a bunch of sentient beings behaving like apes then pretending it was okay. Even though it clearly wasn't a rational decision, they deemed a matter of propriety to be more important than a human life, and that reflects very badly on their personal religious practices.

Date: 2007-01-01 08:56 pm (UTC)Strict rules of behavior and status among the sexes unfortunately lapse over from generation to generation. Problem being those who started such divides are no longer around to be refuted, and thus these directives are cast in stone so to speak.
The problem is that its hard to reform these old ways of life without it becoming an attack on the religion itself, judisim being one where you are easilly labeled a racist more than not. You have to work around the outlet people have Wide open to catch any attacks on their beliefs in this sense.
Again, many are watching like hawks for anyone to validate their fervent belief. Many people are eager to be martyrs, ready to nail themselves up so they can have their "moment". Self validation turned in on itself when people don't go out and do something positive to validate themselves.
Its identical of the people on the bus kicking her, and those who attack the jews as a whole.
